The Friday File: A golf handicap involves the skill of the player which includes past scores and tees used, difficulty and complexity of the course, known as rating and slope, and weather. This results in an “index” derived from the eight best of the last 20 scores posted. The average American female has a 28.7 index, or a handicap of 30-31, the average male, 14.2 and a handicap of 15-16.
