FREQUENCY PHENOMENON
07/25/2025 |
The Friday File: Zipf’s Law describes the relationship between the rank of a word and its frequency, namely that word frequency is inversely proportional to word rank. For example, the most common word will appear twice as often as the second most common, three times as frequently as the third, and so on. Thus, “the” is twice as common as “of”, and three times as common as “and”.
