Shipments of recreational vehicles, towable or motorized, hit a then record 390,000/year in 1978. In the double-dip recession of the early 1980s, they cratered to 108,000. They then slowly rose again, reaching 390,000 in 2006, the peak of the Housing Boom, only to crash to 166,000 in 2009. Since then shipments have boomed. Through 10/17 they have totaled 427,000, up 17% YTD compared to record-breaking 2016. Talk about discretionary spending!
