Bowled Over

The Friday File: Each of the last four teams to break the record as the highest scoring team in NFL history (’67 Oakland Raiders 33.4 points per game, the ’83 Washington Redskins 33.8 PPG, ’98 Minnesota Vikings 34.8 PPG, ’07 New England Patriots 36.9 PPG) have all failed to win the Super Bowl. This year the Denver Broncos became the highest scoring team at 37.875 PPG! Don’t bet on ‘em.

Dem Winners

The Friday File: Since ’09 NFL teams have given big bucks to politicians. The Texans gave the most at 293K, the Chargers were next at 172K and the Jets were 3rd at 148K. They also favored Rs 2 to 1 over Ds. Other teams so inclined include the Cardinals, Cowboys, Broncos, Panthers, Chiefs, Redskins, Lions and Ravens. But, 8 teams favored Ds including the Seahawks, Rams, 49ers, Raiders, Eagles, Saints and both Super Bowl participants, the Giants and Patriots!

Quarterbacks Make Winners

The Friday File: With the Packers losing last Sunday, they are the 8th straight team with the best regular season record not to win the Super Bowl. Moreover, wildcard teams have won 3 of the last 6 Super Bowls. Why? There are tons of good quarterbacks (QBs). 30 years ago 8 QBs had a passer rating over 80. 20 years ago there were 13. This year it was 20–more than 60% of all starting QBs. With so many top QBs, more teams have a chance to win!
