Americans Alvin Roth and Lloyd Shipley won the Nobel Prize in economics for improving how to best match different sets of agents, such as organ donors and recipients, and agents and institutions, such as students with schools and doctors with hospitals. The takeaway message is that markets often need help to “get it right”, that thoughtful market based rules can help, and that government regulation should not be imposed reflexively.
