While Republicans could generally be counted on to (at least rhetorically) push to reduce debt, cut entitlements, lower taxes and boost trade, now, all bets are off. With Trump, the Republicans have a protectionist who wants to keep entitlements unchanged, reduce trade, increase spending on infrastructure and defense, and deport 11 million illegals. These plans are projected to boost public debt incurred through 2026 from $9 trillion to $19 trillion.
